Flying Start

Flying Start is a Welsh Government initiative which aims to create positive outcomes for children aged 0 to 3 in the most disadvantaged communities in Wales.

The scheme provides free, quality part-time childcare for 2- to 3-year-olds along with health visiting services, parenting support and language and play sessions. The scheme is provided through a grant to local authorities.

Registered childminders in Wales are already contributing by delivering Flying Start childcare across some areas of Wales

Welsh Government has committed to doubling the number of children benefitting from the scheme over the coming years and have announced that a further £55m has been set aside to fund this expansion.

PACEY Cymru is working with officials in Welsh Government to highlight the role that registered childminders play in delivering Flying Start and improving outcomes for children and families through the scheme.
