Professional Standards

Members of PACEY demonstrate their professionalism with a commitment to professional standards, our code of ethics and their personal learning. As part of this all our members agree to undertake at least 15 hours of continuous professional development (CPD) each year. This commitment supports them to progress up our standards and to demonstrate their professionalism to others.

Training or continuous professional development (CPD) helps you to increase the standards of care or learning you give to the children in your care. Whilst CPD can be a formal qualification or training, many members achieve their annual CPD requirement whilst delivering their childcare role. CPD activity also includes conference attendance, gaining peer support from colleagues or keeping up to date by reading PACEY factsheets, practice and policy briefings. Preparation for inspection and self-reflective practice are also recognised by PACEY as forms of CPD.  

All childminders, nannies and nursery workers who join PACEY start at the Members level of our Professional Standards. Members meet the core requirements for delivering childcare. Alongside this all PACEY members commit to a code of ethics which is over and above requirements currently set out in Ofsted and CSSIW regulations.

You demonstrate you meet the entry level of Member by completing our Professional Standards online audit tool. This only takes a short time and is also a useful way of tracking your professional development.

When you feel ready, you can also use the audit tool to demonstrate how you have progressed up PACEY's Professional Standards, depending on your experience and level of practice.

• Fellow - members who want to be recognised for extending their childcare practice.
• Ambassador - members who want to be recognised for activities that promote the childcare profession.
