Nanny training

Nannies are not required to register with the childcare regulators Ofsted, in England, or the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW), in Wales.

However, to encourage quality of care, nannies can join the voluntary Ofsted register or the Childcare at Home Approval Scheme in Wales. Nannies who have chosen to register provide parents with the reassurance that they have had an enhanced CRB check, first-aid and basic childcare training.

If you are a nanny who wishes to register with Ofsted, you are required to have completed the following training:

The Common Core outlines the skills and knowledge requirements you are expected to have in order to work with children, young people and families.

The Common Core comprises six areas:

  • Effective communication and engagement with children, young people and families
  • Children's and young people's development
  • Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the child and young person
  • Supporting transitions
  • Multi-agency working
  • Sharing information

You can download the new 2013 PACEY training i-brochure which highlights all the PACEY training options in one document.
