Shaking the foundations of quality

As your professional association, we wanted to share Cathy Nutbrown's review of government's proposals in More Great Childcare.

PACEY worked with Cathy Nutbrown on her review. We were part of her working group and part of the co-production group that advised Cathy and the Department for Education (DfE) on her recommendations.

PACEY welcomed these wholeheartedly at the time because they clearly set out how everyone working in childcare and early years could be supported to deliver high standards of care and learning, through a formal process of qualification requirement and on-going CPD support.

However the response Government has made to these proposals, in its More Great Childcare report, does not go far enough. Whilst it includes some positives, it misses a number of important opportunities to improve the quality of childcare children receive. Furthermore,  its proposals to change ratios and introduce childminder agencies, are likely to reduce quality for children.

PACEY will be raising these concerns on members' behalf both in future meetings with the DfE and via our consultation responses.

Please take time to read Cathy's review, and, if you are interested in joining the debate, you can do so at PACEY Local now or by attending the next round of regional member forums where the issue of qualifications will be discussed.
