Launch of 2-year-old offer

CleggToday, members of PACEY’s Policy and Communications team attended the launch of the 2-year-old offer at a Montessori Nursery in London.

The launch was marked by a speech by the Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, in which he outlined the offer and took questions from stakeholders within the sector and parents.

From today, 130,000 disadvantaged 2-year-olds will be eligible for 15 hours free early education a week at all settings judged as Good or Outstanding.

In the speech, Nick Clegg spoke of how this is set to double in the next year with the goal of 260,000 being eligible from September 2014. This will mean one in five of all 2-year-olds in England will receive free early education from high quality settings. Interestingly, he also stated that the government’s long term plan is for this to be a universal offer, where all 2-year-olds, regardless of their family’s income, will be eligible.
