Too much too soon

More than 100 early years experts, including the Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years, have signed a letter to the Telegraph today. The letter, which you can read here, calls on government to remove the requirement for testing and assessment of young children and make sure that we retain a focus on play-based learning.

This week PACEY agreed to support this new campaign - the Save Childhood Movement - formed amidst growing concern that children's rights and freedoms are being eroded. One key strand of the campaign is to raise awareness of the "schoolification" of early years. PACEY has engaged childcare professionals, parents and teachers on this issue and will be publishing a report this month.

The Save Childhood Movement are encouraging supporters to sign their petition, Stop developmentally inappropriate policy-making in the early years. PACEY has already signed the petition.

A Day of Action has been proposed for 30 October. The event will start at Horse Guards parade at 11.15 followed by a march past Parliament at 12.30, and lobbying of MPs in the Houses of Parliament at 4pm.
