Children and Families Bill receives royal assent

The Children and Families Bill received royal assent yesterday and has now become law, with most of the changes due to come into effect from September 2014.

The Children and Families Act (as it now known) introduces laws which affect a wide range of issues relating to children and families, including adoption and fostering, parental leave and flexible working, special educational needs (SEN), along with several key reforms to childcare, including the extension of school opening hours and introduction of childminder agencies.

As the Government prepares the implementation of the Act’s reforms, PACEY will continue to highlight the importance of childcare professionals in the system of support for disadvantaged children and families and children with SEN and disabilities. We will also continue to voice our members’ concerns about the childminder agency model.
