Revised EYFS published

The Department for Education has today published a revised version of the Early Years Foundation Stage to come into effect on 1 September 2014.

This follows the Government’s response to the consultation on The Regulation of Childcare which was published on 13 February 2014.

The 2014 version of the EYFS reflects those changes which apply to some of the areas within Section 3 on Safeguarding and Welfare, including:

  • listing agencies as the registering/safeguarding authorities for their childminders;
  • a footnote for Section 3.23 about the new GCSE requirements for level 3 qualifications;
  • a footnote to Section 3.25 which states that the requirements for a paediatric first aid training course must cover the St John Ambulance/Red Cross course content, and be renewed every three years
  • the removal of the requirements for many written policies concerning safeguarding and welfare, including behaviour, health and safety, smoking, risk assessments and equal opportunities. Please note that the EYFS still contains mandatory obligations for all childcare providers on all of these topics; the change is only to the requirement for written policies.

There have been no changes to the areas of learning and development themselves (including the early learning goals). You can find out more about the Changes to the EYFS (April 2014) in this free document.
