Counting the cost of childcare

Today the Pre-School Learning Alliance published the findings of Counting the cost, an independent study to analyse delivery costs for funded early years education and childcare.

The findings revealed that government funding only covers the cost of four out of every five children accessing free early education places - forcing childcare providers to make up the shortfall.

The results agree with our own costs and funding survey, which found that half of PACEY’s members who offered free places experienced a shortfall, and that shortfall was on average £461.12 per child per year.

PACEY welcome the findings of this new report, which add to the growing call for the Government to make childcare funding pay for providers.
