Last week, PACEY's Chief Executive Liz Bayram
wrote a letter to Education Secretary Nicky Morgan in response to
Ms Morgan’s
announcement at the Conservative Party Conference in September
of the Department for Education’s new priority: to create
“well-rounded” young people by emphasising “character, resilience
and grit”. In her letter, Liz welcomes this decision to prioritise
well-roundedness but urges the Education Secretary to work with
childcare professionals to explore how this priority can be applied
in the early years.
PACEY would welcome a commitment from Ms
Morgan on this issue, especially considering recent announcements
to
drive early years provision in schools and proposals for
new baseline assessments of school starters in
2016, which we are concerned could narrow children’s
educational goals and environments at the first and most important
stage.

letter in full.
