The SBEE Act 2015: what it means for childcare providers

The Small Business, Enterprise and Employment (SBEE) Act 2015 will come into force from 1 January 2016 and will include two deregulatory childcare measures.

The first measure will allow registered childminders and domestic childcare providers to operate from non-domestic premises for up to half their time.

The second measure will enable registered childcare providers (including domestic childcare providers and childminders) to make one registration application in respect of multiple settings (e.g. domestic and non-domestic premises) and/or add additional premises to an existing registration without completing a separate application each time.

The Department for Education has provided a short document of frequently-asked-questions to help you understand what it is they need to know about these changes.

The DfE will update the EYFS statutory framework at the next opportunity to reflect these changes. In the meantime, please do take note of the changes, which apply in England only and will come into effect from 1 January 2016.
