The Government is currently reviewing the cost of providing childcare and has committed to increase the average funding rate paid to providers. We are encouraging all childcare providers to respond to the Department of Education’s call for evidence about the cost of delivering childcare places, which closes at 5pm on 10 August. This is an important opportunity for you to shape the outcome of the funding review and tell the Government about the real costs of providing high quality childcare, ahead of the expansion of free childcare to 30 hours a week for 3-and 4-year-olds of working parents.
PACEY members have developed a childcare place cost calculator to help you determine the actual cost of providing a childcare place for one hour. The cost calculator was developed specifically with childminders in mind. Log into MyPACEY to access the calculator. If your childcare setting is in a nursery, you might find this nursery guidance useful.
We’ve also put together some general guidance on responding to the call for evidence, which includes a list of key issues you may want to consider addressing.
PACEY is keen to hear your views in order to help shape our own response to the consultation. Please contact Susanna Kalitowski, Policy and Research Manager, if you are willing to share your response with us.
