This summer the Food Standards Agency are asking you to take the Chicken Challenge by learning and sharing important messages about handling raw chicken safely. Join us and pledge your support to their campaign, which aims to raise further awareness of campylobacter - a cause of food poisoning. Young children are particularly vulnerable to this food bug, so it’s vital that early years providers take care when preparing chicken in their setting.
Dr Kevin Hargin, head of food-borne disease control at the FSA said: “As a country, we love chicken and eat it more than any other meat. However, it's one of the biggest causes of food poisoning in the UK. Even if you think you’re doing everything right, take a moment to remind yourself of the ‘chicken rules’ and share the message.”
To be a chicken hero and support the campaign, here’s what you need to do:
- Click on the 'Count Me In' button on the Chicken Challenge page
- Share the Chicken Challenge messages
To help engage the children in your setting, the FSA have created a number of fun activities.
