Commenting on the announcements made in a speech by Education Secretary Nicky Morgan at Policy Exchange, Liz Bayram, chief executive of PACEY, said:
“It is a huge disappointment that Nicky Morgan has ignored the combined voices of early years experts, academics and teachers who have spoken out against baseline assessments. Testing children within the first few weeks of starting school does nothing to support their early development and is instead about monitoring school performance.
"PACEY will continue to add its support to the Better Without Baseline campaign and to argue for the retention of the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile which ensures that a child's physical, social and emotional development is considered alongside academic progress."
