Today PACEY Cymru is launching a Manifesto for Childcare and Early Years in Wales (download the Welsh version here). In six months’ time, elections for the Welsh Assembly will take place. PACEY is calling on all political parties to support the four principles in the Manifesto to provide all families in Wales with a first-class childcare and early years offer, enabling parents to work and children to flourish.
Claire Protheroe, Direct Services Manager for PACEY Cymru, said:
"One of the core components of our work in Wales is communicating the needs of childcare and early years professionals to decision makers. The sector is looking for a more consistent approach from Government and local authorities. In the run-up to the Assembly elections in May 2016, PACEY Cymru is calling on all political parties to support the four principles outlined in our Manifesto for Childcare and Early Years in Wales. A focus on sustainability, quality, affordability and accessibility will ensure the availability of high-quality childcare and early education which meets the needs of all children and their families in Wales."
Liz Bayram, Chief Executive of PACEY, said:
"In these tough economic times, parents across Wales need access to quality, affordable and flexible childcare to enable them to take up work or training and support their families. High-quality childcare and early education have also been shown to play a crucial role in supporting children’s development – and in narrowing the gap between the most and least disadvantaged children. At the heart of quality early years childcare is a qualified and supported workforce. So PACEY Cymru wants all political parties to support will the four simple principles outlined in our Manifesto to give all children in Wales the best possible start"
