PACEY Cymru takes findings from Welsh Business Assessment Questionnaire to Welsh Government

PACEY Cymru will be taking forward a wide range of key issues raised through the Welsh Business Assessment Questionnaire with the Welsh Government. The findings will also feed into plans for sustainability events being developed by Welsh Government in the autumn and we will keep you updated on this.

Childminders in Wales are providing a great service to parents, however 16 per cent are not confident that their services are sustainable over the coming year, according to the questionnaire; while 22 per cent said that as a small business, they were not making a profit. Over 40 percent said that they did not actively market their childcare service, relying on word of mouth; while conversely, 32 per cent used a professional email address and 32 per cent used a professional Facebook account or website, although only three percent had a Twitter account.

Significantly, 20 per cent of those who responded felt that IT was a major barrier for them; this could become an issue as CSSIW (Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales) moves towards a fully computer-based system and away from paper copies for documents and forms.

Over 80 percent of the 325 childcare professionals who responded were aware of the requirements to register with the Food Standards Agency and manage allergens in their setting, while many but not all were aware of requirements to register with the Information Commissioner's Office when processing personal information electronically, including digital photographs of children.

You can read more about how PACEY Cymru will be taking forward the findings of the research in our blog.

Note: PACEY Cymru had responses from 325 childminders and one nursery worker; of the 325 responses 86 percent were PACEY members.
