Pat Glass has been confirmed as the new shadow minister for childcare, as part of Labour’s new frontbench. She will be joining a team headed up by Shadow Education Secretary, Lucy Powell, as announced last week.
Her parliamentary profile includes ‘special educational needs’ in her lists her topics of interest, and prior to becoming an MP in 2010 she held various senior roles in the education sector, including as a Government Education Adviser, and Assistant Director of Education in Sunderland and Greenwich.
Liz Bayram, Chief Executive of the Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years, said:
"We would like to congratulate Pat on her appointment as the new Shadow Childcare Minister and we look forward to working with her closely in the future. She comes from a strong educational background, and we very much hope she will back us in our call for greater reward and recognition of the vital work that childcare professionals do, as well as a workforce strategy to support those at the frontline throughout their career.”
