PACEY staff and members have been mingling with royalty over the past two weeks. With CBEs and garden parties aplenty there has been a great deal of cause for celebration.
David Lane, former Vice President of the Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years (PACEY), was awarded a CBE for services to childcare and social work in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List for 2016. David was presented with his medal by HRH Duke of Cambridge at a ceremony in Buckingham Palace on 13 May 2016.
During his conversation with the Duke of Cambridge, David, pictured left, with his wife, Kathleen, made reference to the great work being done by PACEY members and how important it is that childcare should be valued and recognised by the whole community. There was a real recognition by His Royal Highness for the leadership and support offered by organisations such as PACEY.
The Royal encounters continued in May, as eight PACEY members and staff were lucky enough to attend one of the garden parties which took place in the grounds of Buckingham Palace on 10, 19 and 24 May 2016. The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, along with other members of the Royal family attend each event which typically see 27,000 cups of tea and 20,000 slices of cake consumed!
With an invite list that spans Government, Armed Services, Diplomatic Corps, Police, Church and other Faiths, charities and societies, PACEY is among the organisations to receive annual invitations.
PACEY facilitator, Joana Smith, pictured, left, with her sister, was lucky enough meet HRH Prince Andrew and explain more about her childminding role and the support PACEY provides. Joanna recently received an honorary lifetime membership from PACEY following 17 years working as a childcarer.
PACEY is proud of every one of our volunteers who do so much to help us advocate for better recognition for early years professionals as well as offer direct support to childcare professionals in their local communities.
