CSSIW propose changes to DBS checks

CSSIW are proposing changes to how childcare providers apply for Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks in Wales for CSSIW applications or renewals.  This includes the payment of fees by the childcare provider for each DBS check required.  They are looking for the views of providers on these changes.

What are the proposed changes?

From 2018, CSSIW are proposing to no longer directly manage DBS checks. These will be managed by an external provider who will process DBS application on behalf of CSSIW.

You will be required to pay the DBS fee (currently £44) and an administration charge for this service for each DBS check required.

In addition, you can register with the DBS Update Service when you apply for your DBS check for £13 per year which will keep your DBS up to date.  Registration for the update service needs to be done with the application for a DBS or as soon as you receive your DBS certificate.

The changes that CSSIW are proposing will bring them in line with other UK regulators.
