Tracy Brabin appointed as Labour's new shadow early years minister

Jeremy Corbyn's reshuffle has seen the appointment of a new shadow minister for early years - Tracy Brabin, pictured, right. Tracy, who is Labour MP for Batley and Spen, will sit within the shadow education team which is led by Angela Rayner, MP for Ashton-under-Lyne.

Liz Bayram, PACEY Chief Executive comments:

“PACEY congratulates the new shadow early years minister, Tracy Brabin MP, on her appointment. It has come at a pivotal moment for the sector, and we look forward to working with her. With just under two months before the 30-hour childcare entitlement is rolled out across England, it is crucial that the Government addresses the significant implementation challenges that remain. Funding levels for providers in many areas in England must be increased in order for this policy to be sustainable, and we need a long term funding plan that is subject to regular review."

"We also hope that Tracy will champion the need for an effective Early Years Workforce Strategy that supports more practitioners to progress their careers. As part of this, we invite her to help champion childminders and the vital work they do to support children and families. Without greater recognition and practical assistance, their numbers will only diminish further, and many families will simply not be able to access the high quality, flexible childcare they so desperately need.”

PACEY looks forward to meeting with Tracy Brabin in the near future.
