Newly registered childminders in England can now apply for grants of £500 or £1000 to assist with the setting-up of their businesses. The popular Business Grants scheme has been relaunched after being revised and updated.
PACEY worked hard in liaison with senior civil servants and the Minister to ensure this scheme returns. Part of that work was to ensure those who wanted to apply when scheme was first closed can now do so retrospectively.
If you're planning on setting up as a registered childminder and offering the 30 hours' free entitlement for 3- and 4-year-olds, either in partnership with others, or on your own, you can apply for a grant. You must have been registered within the last 12 months. From 1 May 2017, a newly registered business will be classed as one registered with Ofsted or a childminding agency within the last three months.
Grants of £500 are available for individual childminders
Grants of £1000 are available for starting up a childminding agency or if you are planning to care for disabled children.
Many childminders have already benefited from the grant funding and have used it to kick start their business. The grant can be used to purchase PACEY membership and insurance, resources, equipment, training and other items to help them set up their childminding businesses.
The grant money may be used to pay for:
This scheme will run until March 2018 or until the funding is exhausted. You can find more about the scheme at www.gov.uk
