Safeguarding statutory guidance updates

Department for Education (DfE) has published two pieces of statutory guidance and one piece of updated framework on inter-agency working to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. The revisions reflect legislative changes introduced through the Childcare and Social Work Act 2017.

The updated documents are:

The transitional guidance is designed to help explain how to move from the 2015 version to the new system of practice reviews.

Children and families minister Nadhim Zahawi MP and Edward Timpson CBE have both issued introductory letters explaining the revisions and importance of these documents.

The Department has also published an updated version of Information sharing: Advice for practitioners providing safeguarding services to children, young people, parents and carers. This document has been updated to reflect the changes to data protection regulations with the introduction of GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. It supersedes the HM Government Information sharing: guidance for practitioners and managers published in March 2015.

PACEY will be updating the Home based childcare award (HBCA) and safeguarding course as soon as possible to reflect the new guidance.
