The Department for Education (DfE) has released pilot versions of the 'Statutory framework for the early years foundation stage' and 'Early years foundation stage profile 2018 handbook' will be trialled in twenty-five schools in England along with new Early Learning Goals (ELGs). The pilot will begin in September 2018 and all the schools taking part will give feedback during the 2018-19 school year.
In summary, the ELGs that will be trialled are:
Communication and Language: ELG speaking and Listening
Physical Development: ELG gross motor skills and fine motor skills
Personal, Social and Emotion Development: ELG self-regulation, managing self, building relationships
Literacy: ELG comprehension, word reading and writing
Mathematics: ELG number and numerical patterns
Understanding the World: ELG past and present, people culture and communities and the natural world
Expressive Arts and Design: ELF creating with materials and performing
The proposed changes are NOT final and once all the findings have been fed back to the Department for Education they will be incorporated into the Government's official consultation on proposed changes to the EYFS Profile which is due to take place in 2019. The final version of the EYFS Profile will not come into force until 2021.
PACEY will be actively working to ensure members' views on the proposed revisions are shared with DfE and, when finalised, we will be producing a range of resources and support so that members can prepare for whatever changes it may requires of them.
