Education inspection framework: guide to key changes

From September 2019, Ofsted will change the way it inspects schools, colleges, further education institutions and early years settings in England when the common inspection framework (CIF) is replaced by the education inspection framework (EIF).

PACEY has produced a guide to the changes that is FREE for members and £1.99 non-members, available in the shop.

The guide summarising the key changes in the Early years inspection handbook for Ofsted registered provision, which sets out the inspection requirements for all providers on Ofsted’s Early Years Register, including childminders, nurseries and pre-schools in the private, voluntary and independent (PVI) sector.

Ofsted has said that “providers do not need to do specific work to prepare for the EIF”. Nonetheless, it is important to understand that the new inspection framework does represent a shift in focus. It will:

  • put the curriculum at the heart of the new framework
  • put more emphasis on the quality of education and care as a whole
  • reduce the focus on data, particularly internal progress data.

How PACEY can support you

PACEY is currently producing a range of additional resources including an indepth practical guide to support practitioners prepare for the inspection changes. These will all be available on the Education Inspection Framework spotlight which will be updated regularly with new information, in good time for September.
