NEWS: PACEY launches EY smart - the new way to learn

No longer does a lack of time or budget need to be a barrier to CPD. Today, early years training is changing for the better, with the introduction of EY smart eysmart.pacey.org.uk.

Your new, free, innovative online training platform, EY smart covers everything an early years professional needs to know. Phase one, launching today in England, focusses on the introduction of the Education Inspection Framework (EIF). Phase two launches later this year and looks at the changes to the EYFS and will include courses covering upcoming changes in Wales.

Developed by PACEY in partnership with early years practitioners working in a wide variety of different settings, the site harnesses the latest in technical innovation to provide easily accessible, high quality CPD that quickly and effectively gives practitioners the information, knowledge and skills that they are seeking.

With a workforce already facing severe funding challenges, research has shown that ‘expensive statutory training leaves little money for non-statutory specialist courses' [i] Couple this with long hours working in a setting, and all too often CPD is side-lined.

But a new, innovative approach to training means that everyone in the early years sector now has access to invaluable resources, whenever they want. With short and concise courses, learning has just got a whole lot easier. In fact, all training courses on EY smart take just 10 minutes, and can be completed on any device, at any time. Each course completed earns users a star, and CPD can be evidenced through downloadable personalised reflection documents.

Developed in conjunction with the Open University, EY smart pulls together a series of sector-wide experts including Ofsted, Department for Education and Penny Tassoni MBE – PACEY President and well-known education consultant, author and trainer who specialises in the whole spectrum of learning and play within early years. The EY smart content includes examples of best practice taken from a variety of real settings, with practitioners, children and parents to demonstrate examples and approaches. Each course then links theory and practice together in a meaningful way.

EY smart has been made possible thanks to a grant from Ufi Trust’s VocTech Impact programme which focusses on larger scale piloting and demonstrating of ideas that are proven to change the way adults access vocational skills through the use of technology.

PACEY Chief Executive Liz Bayram comments:
“Increasing training and support is essential to give practitioners the confidence to develop their expertise, especially when changes to familiar frameworks are coming. With the launch of EY smart, PACEY is proactively breaking down the barriers to learning. We know that long hours and limited funds mean that training and development all too often gets pushed down the list, even though we all know they are key components of a high quality childcare service for families.

“We believe that EY smart will change the way the sector learns. With the content and structure of the training firmly putting the child at the centre of the learning, it makes CPD easy and we believe will soon become second-nature.”
