NEWS: Winter plan and new tiers confirmed in England

The Government has confirmed that the second lockdown in England will end on 2 December, with a return to the regional tiered system. We are glad to see that early years providers in England will continue to remain open across all tiers.

Similarly in Wales the national lockdown ended on the 9 November and new national measures came into place at this time again with childcare, play and education settings remaining open.

The three tiers that apply in England are:

  • Tier 1: Medium Alert
  • Tier 2: High Alert
  • Tier 3: Very High Alert

Not sure what tier you're in? Click here to view the list of local restriction tiers by area and if you need to, you can use this postcode checker to find out which area applies to you. Read all the rules that apply within each tier here.

Liz Bayram, Chief Executive at PACEY comments:
“PACEY welcomes confirmation that childcare and early years settings can continue to remain open. This recognises the crucial role that providers play in supporting children’s wellbeing and development as well as helping parents balance work and family life. It has been a turbulent year and the sustainability of their services continues to be under threat. Staying open is only part of the solution. With fewer children in attendance and testing delays causing lengthy temporary closures, government must provide long-term financial support to the sector. As a start we urgently need confirmation of DfE’s decision on early education funding from January. We urge them to continue to provide this at pre-pandemic levels to avoid further pressure being placed on settings still struggling with the pandemic.”
