NEWS: Government announces plans to support businesses with energy bills

The Government has today announced measures to support businesses and public sector organisations in Great Britain and Northern Ireland with rising energy bills.

The new Energy Bill Relief Scheme will provide a discount on wholesale gas and electricity prices for non-domestic customers benefitting businesses, charities and public sector organisations including early years settings.

Under the scheme, wholesale energy prices are expected to be fixed to £211 per MWh for electricity and £75 per MWH for gas - which is estimated to be around half the anticipated winter cost. The scheme will run for six months, from 1 October 2022 to 31 March 2023 initially and is automatically applied. The Government will review the scheme after three months to assess how it will continue to support the most vulnerable customers.

The support outlined for businesses is in addition to the previously announced Energy Price Guarantee which was put in place to support households with energy bills and will benefit registered childminders who work in their own homes.
