Development Matters has been updated to support the new EYFS and has been published today by the Department for Education. It has been written to help early years providers understand and apply the EYFS correctly in their setting. Remember, though, that the new EYFS doesn’t come into force until September 2021 – that’s a year from now.
The year-long transition phase is to help providers manage the move to the new EYFS. It gives you time to reflect on your current practice and, using the examples given in Development Matters and the associated training that will be available over the coming months, plan how to implement any changes that need to be made.
Julian Grenier led the creation of the guidance, and we’ll be chatting with him about the changes – and what they mean for providers – in the next couple of weeks. Watch this space for more information about how you can get involved. You can also read more about Julian and his work in the most recent issue of Childcare Professional.
Helen Donohoe, PACEY's Policy Advisor comments:
"We welcome the publication of the revised Development Matters, today. Alongside our own training and resources, including EY Smart, it will form a crucial source of support and guidance as our members gear up to the launch of the updated EYFS in late 2021."
