EYFS reforms

From today (1 September 2021), early years providers in England must follow the revised early years foundation stage (EYFS) framework. The Department for Education has written a letter to the sector to highlight some key resources to support with implementing the new EYFS.

Ofsted inspection handbook

Ofsted has updated its Early Years Inspection handbook which applies from today, 1 September 2021. Early years and childcare providers can refer to the inspection handbook to learn more about how Ofsted inspectors will carry out their inspections and judgements under the education inspection framework (EIF). Ofsted also set out a summary of changes which you can read here.

Webinar: preparing for the autumn term

The DfE recorded a webinar for schools, nurseries and childminder settings to remind them of the changes that came into effect with Step 4 of the government's roadmap from 19 July. This includes advice for how settings should be managing coronavirus safety measures through the autumn term and an update on the testing and vaccination programmes. The video can be found on the document sharing platform titled ‘Ref RP158 preparing for autumn term’.

Return to settings parent’s leaflet

To support parents with the return to education settings this autumn, Public Health England has published a leaflet titled “Taking your child to an early years setting: information for parents”. This includes an FAQ section addressing some of the questions and concerns that parents might have.
