A Crisis in Childcare Recruitment

The childcare industry is facing a crisis in recruitment. There are thousands of jobs out there, but not enough childcarers to fill those positions. As a director of Tinies, the largest childcare recruitment company in the UK, I have seen this crisis deepen over the years, without any push by the Government to fix it. Tinies has decided to take matters into its own hands by launching a campaign called “Inspiring A Future In Childcare”.

CSSIW SASS part 2 and Quality of Care

CSSIW are this week sending letters out to all registered childcare providers in Wales informing them of the process they have to follow for part 2 of the Self-Assessment of Service (SASS) which includes the Quality of Care Report.  This has to be submitted online and is a regulatory requirement.  If you did not complete part 1 of the SASS last summer you now have to complete part 1 and 2 by the 28th July. In this blog you can find guidance and information on how to complete your SASS.

Tyre care: make sure you get them all home safely on safe tyres

Keep your young charges safe on the road by carrying out TyreSafe’s tyre safety checks. Make a note on your calendar to check your tyres for air pressure, overall condition and tread depth each month and before long journeys. It takes just a few minutes but could prevent a tyre-related safety incident.

How communication and language skills support children to learn about giving and sharing

I remember talking to a group of children in Year 1 about sharing and, while some of them talked about the positive aspects of sharing, one child described it as ‘never getting what you want’. I thought this was an interesting insight and a useful starting point for looking at how sharing relates to speech, language and communication skills.

Care is ageless

After her childminding children met a number of elderly volunteers at a Salvation Army donation trip, Chloe noticed that they positively thrived interacting with them, with an incredible amount of confidence. Chloe's great-grandmother was then diagnosed with Alzheimer's and the idea of visiting her with the children made complete sense.
