The Giant Wiggle is a fun-filled sponsored walk, in partnership with The Very Hungry CaterpillarTM. Participants can take part on any day during Giant Wiggle Week (7-13th May), offering you loads of opportunities to get all the children you care for involved.
Once registered, Action for Children will send you a Giant Wiggle Activity Pack full of fab fundraising ideas, including a sponsored giant caterpillar conga, recipes to follow, arts and crafts and educational activities.
The event pack is designed to support children’s development in literacy, numeracy and creative skills. You'll also be able to download the Very Hungry Caterpillar Early Years Resources pack, developed by PACEY and Puffin. The pack's materials are based on the early years frameworks for England and Wales.
Physical activity can help to develop the coordination, strength and manipulation skills that children need for holding a pencil, sitting upright and moving with confidence. It can also give children the skills and confidence they need to continue an active lifestyle into childhood and beyond.
And we all know that reading is incredibly beneficial for child development, so why not do your own reading of The Very Hungry CaterpillarTM story to inspire children to pick up their own books?
The Giant Wiggle isn’t just a sponsored walk, it’s also the perfect opportunity to make some cakes from the recipes and hold a bake sale, or to get creative and make your own caterpillar collection boxes. The possibilities are endless! Action for Children’s own Local Fundraisers are also on hand to support you and give you advice on how to make the most of your event.
So why get your Giant Wiggle on?
Your Giant Wiggle fundraising makes such a huge difference at Action for Children. All your hard work means the charity can continue to support over 370,000 disadvantaged children every year.
- £15 could pay for three separate children to have an Action for Children babysitter whilst a parent takes their sick child to hospital.
- £30 could pay for several children with learning disabilities to receive important materials to help them with their language skills.
- £60 could help Action for Children to provide breakfast for 45 hungry children at their breakfast clubs.
Action for Children helps children like Patrik, who was living in neglect along with his siblings, who were both suffering from rickets. Action for Children stepped in and educated the family about how to cook healthy meals, provide a safe environment for the children and look after their finances. Now the family is much healthier and happier and looking forward to Patrik starting school.
