CYPOP5 in Wales

PACEY provides introductory training in home-based childcare for childcarers in Wales through the unit "Understand how to set up a home-based childcare service".

This is also known as CYPOP5. It is PACEY's recommended preparatory course for prospective and new childminders in Wales and it also covers the requirements for nannies. Before this course, if you are looking to register as a childminder, you need to attend a briefing session.

Accessing the training

The first thing to do is to attend a briefing session. These are available either through PACEY or through your local authority. Contact PACEY Cymru on 0845 880 1299 or email to find out more about your individual local authority’s position. Some local authorities will also fund you to complete the CYPOP5 course and we can also give you information on funding available. Once these points have been confirmed we can discuss with you whether the face-to-face or online route is best for you and guide you through the process of enrolling onto a course.

Course delivery

The course can be delivered in a face-to-face setting over a number of sessions - ideal for groups of new and prospective childcare practitioners in a local authority. PACEY can deliver the course on behalf of local authorities so remember to contact your local PACEY staff member or your local authority early years team to find out if funding is available for the training.

Individual learners can also access CYPOP5 via e-learning, where they can undertake the course at times that suit them. Online learners will submit their assignments electronically, and are given six months to complete the course.

No matter how the course is delivered, all learners receive a textbook as part of their course package and have access to extra online skills for life training as well.
