PACEY transfers to Coram Group as Coram PACEY

Coram has announced that the work of PACEY – formerly the Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years – has today transferred into the Coram Group and will be known as Coram PACEY.

Coram PACEY is the professional association dedicated to supporting home-based child carers, including childminders and nannies, to provide high quality services, information and advice to children, their families and carers. Coram PACEY represents more than 50% of childminders registered in England and Wales, supporting them and the nearly 100,000 children that they care for to thrive.

Coram PACEY will maintain all existing services and continue to work with members, childcare and early years providers, stakeholders, and the wider childcare and early years sector, and pursue its key mission to reverse the decline of childminder numbers. In Wales it will be known as Coram PACEY Cymru and work will continue to be delivered by the team based in Wales.

The work of PACEY complements that of existing members of the Coram Group, notably: Coram Family and Childcare (CFC), who deliver the annual national childcare survey and are responsible for the National Association of Family Information Services and Parent Champions; and Coram Hempsall’s, who deliver project management, consultancy and capacity development in the early years and childcare sector.

Dr Carol Homden, Coram CEO, said: “Childminders are the bedrock of support for a significant proportion of children and their families and particularly those with special educational needs and disabilities. Coram is proud to welcome the team at PACEY and the vital work to ensure that children have the best possible support for their future.”

Helen Donohoe former CEO of PACEY said: “This is an exciting development enabling the voice and experience of childminders and early years practitioners to be sustained and enhanced by our professional association as we look forward to our 50th anniversary in 2027.”

About Coram PACEY

The Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years (PACEY) was formed in 1977 as the voice of childminders, dedicated to supporting home-based child carers including childminders and nannies to provide high quality services, information and advice to children, their families and carers.

There are now some 26,542 registered childminders in England and Wales, (August 2024), down by 4% from previous year, 50% of registered childminders (caring for around 100,000 children.) are members of Coram PACEY which represents their views and experiences to inform policy and supports them in their work through training, advice, insurance, products, policies and updates.

70% of Coram PACEY members provide wraparound care, allowing parents the flexibility to work and 85% of members say that PACEY helps raise the profile of, and improves knowledge of, the role of childcare/early years professionals.

Coram PACEY will continue this vital work, benefitting from the shared infrastructure and multi-disciplinary expertise in Coram to develop further capacity in the early years. For more information, please visit www.pacey.org.uk
