Welsh Assembly consultation on physical punishment

The Welsh Government has today opened a consultation on a proposal to remove the defence of reasonable punishment when physically punishing or smacking a child.  Currently it is against the law for a parent or carer to smack their child, except where this amounts to ‘reasonable punishment’.  They are consulting on the development of a proposal in law to remove this defence.


Cabinet reshuffle leads to big changes at the Department for Education

A cabinet reshuffle has led to a leadership shake-up at the Department for Education, with the departures of the Secretary of State, Justine Greening MP, and the Minister of State for Children and Families, Robert Goodwill MP.
