NEWS: Brand new recruitment campaign for early years launched

A new national recruitment campaign in England has been launched by the Department of Education today across TV, cinema, online, radio and out of home advertising to encourage people to start a career working with small children ahead of the first phase of the largest ever expansion in free childcare starting in April.

A £1,000 sign-on bonus for childcare workers - which will cover 20 local authorities across England- is also being launched today to increase capacity, tackle unemployment, and offer more childcare places. The trial will give new-starters and returners a tax-free cash payment shortly after they take up post.

The London Assembly Economy Committee is calling on the Government to review funding rates for early education entitlements in London, amid concerns that the sector will be unable to cope with the increase in demand when free childcare is expanded to children under three.


NEWS: Labour consider plans to fund new nurseries in primary schools

The Labour party is reportedly considering funding more primary school-based nursery places across England and has tasked the former Ofsted head Sir David Bell with finding new ways to tackle the shortage in childcare.
